Tata Motors is readying a couple of new SUVs, which would be positioned above the Hexa SUV in its vehicle line-up. The latest word is that one of the two SUVs, the Q501, has been codenamed as 'Tata H5' and it would have its world premiere in pre-production guise at the 2018 Auto Expo on February 7, 2018. Underpinning the same architecture as the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Tata Q501 SUV would be offered in both 5- and 7-seat configurations. Recently, a test mule was spotted with a hacked Discovery Sport top hat.
Further reports have indicated that both 5- and 7-seat versions would have different design and styling. Both the versions are believed to be powered by the Fiat-sourced 2.0L MultiJet II turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine with different power outputs and torque performances. This engine would develop maximum power of 140bhp with the 5-seater SUV, while it would belt out 170bhp when paired with the 7-seater versions. The 2.0L diesel engine is already on offer with the recently launched Jeep Compass and it is locally developed in the country, which would help Tata Motors' to set an aggressive pricing for the SUV. Tata H5 SUV is expected to be launched by the end of 2018 in the Indian market.
As per the sources, Tata Q501 SUV with 5-seat layout would attract an introductory price of Rs. 13 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom), while the 7-seater version would be commanding a premium of nearly Rs. 2 Lakhs over the 5-seater model, which would make it priced at around Rs. 15 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). The new C-segment SUV from Tata Motors would lock horns with the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, and Honda CR-V in India. Meanwhile, in other news, the company would also held the global debut of X451 hatchback (Hyundai i20 rival) at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. In addition, Tata Nexon AMT, Tata Tiago Sport and Tata Tigor Electric are also expected to be launched at the biennial event.
