There are only a handful of true SUVs in the country today for the customers who have a budget of around Rs 15 Lakhs. While the Tata Safari Storme was a credible option, the new Mahindra Scorpio ate a lot of market share from it. The Tata Safari Storme facelift is eminent in a few days now as some latest spy shots of the SUV have surfaced online and the car can be seen standing at a dealer stockyard.
We were the first portal to reveal that the Safari Storme will get the steering mounted controls and the spy shots hammers our scoop. Also, the Safari will borrow most of its interior from the other modern Tata vehicles like the Bolt and the Zest. A 3-spoke steering, a new 2-din music system and a Harman Kardon system will also grace the interiors of the SUV.
On the exterior front, the Safari Storme facelift will get rather subtle changes and one can see the Range Rover Evoque sourced new Honeycomb grille and airdam. Also, the previous spy shots have revealed a ‘Varicor400′ badge on the fenders, that reveal the improved torque for the 2.2-litre diesel engine. Apart from these changes, nothing major is shuffled in the SUV.
Under the hood, the new Safari Storme will come powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel unit that produces 160ps of power and 400 Nm of torque. If these reported numbers are correct, this will be a 20ps and 80 Nm increase over the current model. Though, the Safari facelift will continue to get the same 5-speed manual gearbox as in the current SUV.
The new Safari Storme will be priced some Rs 50000 upwards of the current generation car, making it fall in the price zone of Rs 12-15 Lakhs. Once launched, the Safari will compete against the likes of new Mahindra Scorpio and Nissan Terrano.
