Tata Motors’ recent launched hatchback, the Tiago, became the best-selling car of the company within weeks of its launch in the month of April. Based on the all-new IMPACT design philosophy, the hatchback launched on April 6 and the company has sold 3,022 units of the car same month. And with this sales figure, the product has become the best-selling Tata car in April.
Tata Tiago was unveiled in December 2015 by the name “Zica”, as the name resembles the deadly virus “Zika”, the company changed it to Tiago. Tata Motors had already received over one lakh enquiries for the Tiago.
The Indigo and Manza are the next best-selling products by the Tata Motors, both of which together found 1,581 buyers in April. It is clear that the Tiago has become the most important product for the Indian car market. The hatch has witnessed a high demand because of its competitive pricing, where the range starts from Rs. 3.20 lakh for petrol models and Rs. 3.94 lakh for diesel models (ex-showroom Delhi).
Speaking of the engine lineup, the Tiago is offered in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with the company's all-new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron and 1.05-litre 3-cylinder Revotorq engines, respectively. The petrol engine develops maximum power of 84bhp and peak torque of 114Nm, while the diesel motor returns 69bhp of top power and 140Nm of maximum torque. Both the engines are linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. It was also learnt that Tata might introduce an AMT variant at later stage. The petrol and diesel variants have mileage of 23.84kmpl and 27.28kmpl (Both ARAI specified), respectively.
