Tata Motors launched the Tiago AMT on March 6, 2017 at an introductory price of Rs. 5.39 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in the country. Now, for the first time, the automatic hatchback has been spotted at a company dealership, suggesting that the company has commenced the dealer dispatch. Tata Tiago AMT comes only in range-topping XZA petrol trim. The home-grown automaker has sold over 50,000 units of the Tiago in the Indian market since its launch, while nearly 80 percent of the total sales came from petrol variants.
The Tiago AMT comes loaded with several premium features as it is based on the top-end XZ trim. The standard features include alloy wheels, dual-tone interior, Harman-developed ConnectNext infotainment system with navigation, music system with four speakers and four tweeters, reverse parking sensors, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Corner Stability Control (CSC) and dual front airbags. Likened to the standard variants of Tiago which come with 'Eco' and 'City' driving modes, it comes with 'Sports' and 'City' driving modes. In addition, the company has offered an inbuilt ‘creep’ feature, which is quite handy during thick traffic.
Mechanically, the Tiago AMT is powered by the same 1.2L 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine which develops maximum power of 84bhp and 114Nm. The Easy Shift AMT variant comes equipped with four gear positions – Automatic, Neutral, Reverse and Manual. For those asking, the 'creep' feature enables the car to crawl as soon as the pressure is eased off the brake pedal, without pressing the accelerator. In addition, this feature also prevents the car from rolling back when it starts from an inclined position. Tata Tiago AMT challenges the likes of Maruti Celerio AMT and Renault Kwid AMT in the Indian market. Meanwhile, Tata Motors is all set to launch the Tigor sedan on March 29, 2017 in the country, which is based on the Tiago.
