Electric vehicles dominated the 14th edition of the Auto Expo in Greater Noida, with carmakers giving a glimpse of their EV concepts and models, most of which will be launched in India at a later stage. Bullish on transforming its image and acquiring a larger chunk of the automotive market, the Mumbai-based car giant, Tata Motors showcased electric versions of its Tiago hatchback and Tigor subcompact sedan at the biennial event.
In terms of styling, both the models are largely same as their conventional-engine-powered versions, though Tata has added some minute bits to set them apart. That said, the EV versions of Tiago and Tigor get blue decals on the flanks and the ‘EV’ badge on the grille.

Both, Tata Tiago EV and Tata Tigor EV share the same specifications, which comprises a 3-phase AC induction motor with a peak power of 30kW at 4,500rpm. The company has not divulged details deeming the range, or the battery offered on these EVs, but these are expected to come with a fast charging option.
The carmaker clinched a massive order for supplying 10,000 electric vehicles to the government-run Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) last year. These EVs will be delivered in a phased manner and the first batch has already been handed-over in December 2017. As for the launch, the electric versions of Tiago and Tigor are expected to launch later this year carrying a hefty price tag.
