Tata Motors finally seem to have strike the right chord in the Indian market with the Tiago hatchback, as it has recorded 23,000 bookings in just three months. The waiting period for the hatch has gone upto 3 months, depending upon the place, variant and color. The company has received 70 percent of the bookings for the petrol variants with the top-end variant accounting for majority of the orders. The entry-level trim XE, which comes with only basic features like AC and power steering, has a waiting period of 2 months.
Interestingly, the optional variants XE (O) and XM (O) are yet to arrive at most of the dealerships. Both the aforementioned variants come with the addition of dual front airbags. It is being learnt that dealers, even in metropolitan cities like Chennai, are advising the buyers to go with the range-topping XT variant, if safety features are on top of their priority list. For those asking, the home-grown automaker adopted JLR-derived processes in the conceptualization and designing of the Tiago. The Tiago comes loaded with premium features such as Harman ConnectNext infotainment system, Steering mounted audio & phone controls, Driver seat height adjustment, Cooled glove box, ABS with EBD & Corner Stability Control, Seat belt with pretensioners & load limiters, and Front fog lamps.
Tata Tiago is available in both the petrol and diesel guises in five trim levels: XB, XE, XM, XT and XZ. The petrol variants are powered by the all-new 1.2L 3-cylinder Revotron engine which develops a maximum power of 84bhp and peak torque of 114Nm. On the other hand, the diesel variants derive their power from a 1.05L 3-cylinder Revotorq engine which belts out 69bhp and 140Nm. The Tiago was the best-seller in Tata Motors' portfolio for the month of June 2016 with 4205 units being sold. The company had sold 3022 units and 3,287 units of the hatch in the months of April and May, respectively. Tata would also introduce the AMT gearbox with the petrol variants of Tiago, and it is expected to be launched during the festive season of Diwali in November 2016.
