The TMETC (Tata Motors European Technical Centre) has launched the concept of the Tata Tiago EV in Millbrook at the Cenex LCV (Low Carbon Vehicle) event. This is, indeed, a good step forward for Tata Motors as the ICE Tiago has been a very successful model in India.
The Tata Tiago EV concept further widens the lineup of the hatchback, which had a petrol and diesel engine earlier. Moreover, with India slowly adopting the all-electric path in order to curb the pollution, this EV could be a big step forward. However, the fate of such EVs in India is unpredictable.
The all-electric Tata Tiago concept is fitted with a battery-powered engine which is big enough to make a maximum power of 114 bhp and a peak torque of 200 Nm. This powerful engine is capable of hitting an acceleration of 0 to 100 kms per hour in under 11 seconds along with a top speed of 135 kms per hour. Short distance rides will be great with this electric vehicle as the engine comes with just a single-speed gearbox. The battery of this EV will be good enough to run for around 100 kms on one charge.
The Tata Tiago EV weighs 1,040 kilograms and comes with the same aesthetic design as the standard Tiago. It is the fourth generation of compact EVs which is developed by the Research and Development team at Coventry.
However, despite the Tata Tiago being one of the best-selling hatchbacks, the EV version is not expected to come to India anytime soon as the country has just started to show interest in the EV segment and is very far away from getting ample infrastructure. Moreover, no Government body or automaker has yet started the initial phase of a full-fledged EV infrastructure.
