Tata Tiago, launched a fortnight back, has received 100,000 enquiries, confirmed Nakul Gupta, Regional Manager South-1, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors. However, the company has refrained from announcing the number of bookings that the hatch has registered. Tata Tiago is priced belligerently at Rs. 3.20 Lakhs and it is seen as the 'savior' for the home-grown automaker, who is having a tough time currently.
Tata Tiago was launched in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with the company's all-new 1.2L, 3-cylinder Revotron and 1.05L, 3-cylinder Revotorq engines, respectively. The petrol engine develops maximum power of 84bhp and peak torque of 114Nm, while the diesel motor returns 69bhp of top power and 140Nm of highest torque. Both the engines are linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. It was also learnt that Tata might introduce an AMT variant at later stage. The petrol and diesel variants have mileage of 23.84kmpl and 27.28kmpl (Both ARAI specified), respectively.
Tata Tiago is by far the most affordable hatch in its segment, while providing exemplary features and best-in-class mileage. However, an older report indicated that Tata might not be able to hold on to this pricing forever. SN Barman, Vice-President, Sales & Network, Tata Motors, said that it is quite difficult to keep this price for a certain duration. Now, only time would tell that how longer Tata sticks to the introductory price. Also, it remains to be seen how many bookings the Tiago has recorded and and how many cars Tata sells every month to track its success in the Indian market.
