Tata Tiago Gets 15,000 Bookings

Tata Motors has received over 15,000 bookings for the Tiago hatchback in a month, since its launch on April 6, 2016 in the country. In addition, there were around 1 Lakh enquiries made for the hatch. Thrilled by the overwhelming response to the Tiago, the company is contemplating a price hike. Tata Tiago was launched in a price range of Rs. 3.20 - 5.54 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi). Being introduced in both the diesel and petrol fuel trims, it was presented in five grades: XB, XE, XM, XT, and XZ.

The Tiago was the best-selling model for Tata Motors in April 2016 as the company sold 3022 units of the hatch. It helped Tata to register a sales growth of 2.2 percent as compared to the same month in 2015. The primary reason seen behind the success of Tiago is its belligerent pricing and impressive fuel economy. And, even recently, SN Barman, Vice-President, Sales & Network, Tata Motors hinted that the company might not be able to maintain the same pricing for too long. The hatchback is powered by  1.2L 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine and a 1.05L 3-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine. The former develops 84bhp and 114Nm, while the latter churns out a top power of 69bhp and peak torque of 140Nm. Both the engines are coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission, while AMT variants are said to be introduced at later stages.

Around a month back, Tim Leverton, Head of Tata Motors' R&D wing, admitted that it would take the company at least 3-4 years to have a complete product portfolio. The company is all set to launch the Hexa crossover in the next couple of months, while the Kite 5 sedan would be launched by the end of 2016. Tata Nexon compact SUV would be introduced in first half of 2017, while the Land Rover Discovery Sport based luxury SUV (codenamed Q501) is expected to see the daylight in 2018. Tata intends to enter each and every segment in passenger vehicle market in India to increase the market share. Though, one hasn't heard about Tata venturing into C-segment sedan and come out with a product like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz.
