Tata Motors announced that the Tiago hatchback has registered highest-ever sales of 9277 units in August 2018. In this new milestone, the top-end trim, XZ is the highest-selling variant. According to the current market trends, the petrol variant contributed 80 percent of the overall sales for Tiago last month.
Since its launch in April 2016, Tata Motors have sold 1.7 lakh units of the hatchback and the car is still registering a strong growth despite being in its third year of production. Company has also expanded its Tiago range by launching the Tiago NRG, which is a cross hatch, in order keep the product more interesting among the Indian buyers. The Tiago NRG is priced at Rs 5.49 lakhs for the petrol version and Rs 6.31 lakhs for the diesel version (ex showroom, Delhi).
Mechanically, the Tiago hatchback is offered in both the fuel guise. The petrol variant gets a 1.2-litre Revotron, triple cylinder engine that produces 84bhp of max power with 114Nm of torque. On the other hand, the diesel version draws its power from a 1.05-litre three-cylinder Revotorq unit that develops 69bhp of power with 140Nm of top torque. The transmission duties are carried out with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, while AMT variant is also on offer with the petrol trim.
The Tiago is the first product to be introduced under the IMPACT Design language and more than 50 per cent of the buyers are under the age of 35 years, high popularity amongst the young generation.
