Tata Tiago has registered over 40,000 bookings since its launch and the general waiting period has escalated to three months. Tata Motors sold 5114 units of the hatch in Jul 2016, which is their best figure for the month. In addition, the home-grown automaker is contemplating increase in production to meet the rising demand and lower down the waiting period, confirmed SN Burman, Vice-President, Sales & Network, Passenger Vehicle Division, Tata Motors.
As per SIAM, the auto industry grew by 7 percent in July 2016 while Tata Motors recorded a growth of 32 percent in sales due to immense demand for Tiago and Zest. The petrol variants of Tiago have received majority of the bookings. Moreover, the top-end variants have accounted for most number of bookings due to extensive equipment list. It is also being learnt that the entry-level variant XB, which comes only with A/C and power steering, has got comparatively less bookings and has a minimum waiting period of just 2 weeks. Tata Tiago competes with the likes of Maruti Celerio, Chevrolet Beat, Ford Figo and Hyundai Grand i10. Tata is planning to introduce AMT version of the hatch during the festive season of Diwali in November.
Tata Tiago petrol variants get an all-new 1.2L 3-cylinder Revotron engine which develops top power of 84bhp and peak torque of 114Nm. The diesel variants debut the company's new 1.05L 3-cylinder Revotorq mill which generates maximum power output of 69bhp and highest torque performance of 140Nm. Both the engines are linked to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. The company is all set to launch the Kite 5 compact sedan, based on the same platform as the Tiago. Additionally, the Kite 5 would share several interior components and engine options with the Tiago.
