Nissan, the Japenese car manufacturing giant has disclosed in a press conference the name of its latest model of Sports Utilitiy Vehicle. They have named it ‘Terrano’; however; they have used this name in ‘1993’ as well when they called a small ‘SUV’ Terrano. The production of this car was stopped in the year ‘2006’.
The vehicle is the result of coordination of both Nissan and Renault auto makers. Based on the model of ‘Renault Duster’ it is said to have many added features which the original ‘Duster’ does not have. The exterior of the car is substantially changed to make it appear more stylish and luxurious. So far Nissan has only released a copy which shows the car with tinted windows, stylish spokes on all four wheels, changed front and back sides, and sleek ‘headlamps’ as well as ‘tail lights’. The inside of this model; however, is not changed keeping in mind the cost factor; except for the ‘Nissan logo’ which is placed on the wheel in a prominent place. The vehicle will be produced at ‘Oragadam’ manufacturing facility of Nissan and expected to be unveiled latter this year.
The price of the car is more than that prevalent in the market for ‘Duster’. Torrano is going to cost nearly Rupees fifty to seventy five thousand more. Nissan officials explained that according to an agreement with Renault all cars which come under its brand name needs to be priced higher than the purely Nissan models.
During the news conference while announcing this new vehicle a highly placed executive of Nissan maintained that this particular model is coming with very fetching and smart design. He said that there is a substantial growth of prospective buyers for Nissan cars in India and hoped that they would accept the new ‘Terrano’ with the same enthusiasm. The announcement did not disclose any other facts related to engine ‘performance’, fuel efficiency etc. It is hoped that these would be disclosed in the future.
