Tesla Model 3 has turned out to be one big gold-digging machine for the company. Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced via Twitter that within a week of its global unveiling, the new electric sedan has crossed 325,000 bookings and has amassed 14 billion USD. Tesla Model 3 would also be launched in India in 2018, while the company would enter India in 2017 to set up a network of Superchargers and destination chargers across the nation.
Over 325k cars or ~$14B in preorders in first week. Only 5% ordered max of two, suggesting low levels of speculation.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 7, 2016
"A week ago, we started taking reservations for Model 3, and the excitement has been incredible. We’ve now received more than 325,000 reservations, which corresponds to about $14 billion in implied future sales, making this the single biggest one-week launch of any product ever. This interest has spread completely organically. Unlike other major product launches, we haven’t advertised or paid for any endorsements. Instead, this has been a true grassroots effort driven by the passion of the Tesla team that’s worked so hard to get to this point and our current and future customers who believe so strongly in what we are trying to achieve. Most importantly, we are all taking a huge step towards a better future by accelerating the transition to sustainable transportation," said Tesla in an official statement.
"We want to thank everyone who has shown their faith in Tesla and the mission of electric vehicles. We would write more, but we need to get back to increasing our Model 3 production plans!" added Tesla. Tesla Model 3 has an electric range of over 350 kilometers, while accelerating from 0-100kmph in a mere 6 seconds. The sedan would also feature Autopilot software. It would be offered in both Rear-Wheel-Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) modes. The price for the Model 3 starts at USD 35,000 and it can be booked online at a token amount of USD 1,000. The company has stated that Model 3 would go into production in 2017, while deliveries are slated to commence by the end of 2017.
