Tesla Motors have finally unveiled the much-awaited Model 3 at its design center in Hawthorne, California. The highly affordable electric car would also be launched in India, confirmed Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla Motors via his official Twitter handle. Tesla Model 3 is priced at $35,000 (Rs. 23 Lakhs), while the it can be booked at a token amount of $1,000 (Rs. 66,000). Elon Musk, while unveiling the electric car, announced that the company has received over 115,000 pre-orders within past 24 hours. Furthermore, Musk tweeted that the company would setup a nationwide Supercharger network in India for the charging of the car.

Talking about Tesla Model 3, it appears to be the mini Model S with no front grille like the Model X. The interior cabin is inspired from both the Model S and Model X, with a mammoth infotainment screen. Elon Musk has claimed that Model 3 would earn 5 star ratings in each and every category of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s tests of battery. The company CEO also said that every variant of Model 3 would come with Autopilot hardware and safety features. The Model 3 would comfortably accommodate 5 adults as front seats have been moved a bit forward and rear occupants would enjoy a decent legroom.

For those asking, all the trims of Model 3 would feature supercharging as standard and the supercharging network across the planet would be doubled to 7200 by 2017 end, so that one can conveniently charge the car. It would be powered by a 60kw hour lithium-ion battery pack and quite identical to the Model S, it would come with an 8 year, infinite-mile, transferable warranty on the battery and drive unit. Tesla Model 3 would enter production in 2017, so one can expect the first car in India by 2018. Talking about the performance, the base version of Model 3 would do a 0-97kmph sprint in just under 6 seconds, while having an all-electric range of 350 kilometers.

The Model 3 would be locking horns with the upcoming Chevrolet Bolt EV, which is said to be having a range of 320 kilometers. Tesla Model 3 would be offered in several countries like India, Brazil, South Africa, South Korea, New Zealand, Singapore and Ireland. The Model 3 would be retailed as CBU in India and expect the pricing to be around Rs. 50 Lakhs; however, it may avail you a plenty of benefits under the FAME initiative of Government of India. Elon Musk told media that tonight's event was part 1 of the Model 3's unveiling. It is still not known what is there in Part 2 and when will it take place, but it certainly is thrilling and intriguing.
