Tesla Inc. has already been up in the news for its popular Model 3. Considering that, whatever the company is planning to do seems to be working quite well for the company as of now. With the entry level Model 3 still in the production phase and is all set to redefine electric vehicles on its launch, the company has given its fan another reason to cheer. The company has released the first teaser image of its upcoming car, named as the Model Y, which would be a compact crossover. The teaser image was released by the American automaker at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View in the state of California during its Annual Shareholder Meeting.

Although the teaser image does not quite reveal much about the design of the Tesla Model Y crossover, we can expect it to borrow some designing cues from the Model 3 sedan. However, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc., has now confirmed that the new compact crossover will be based on a completely new platform. This confirmation has come after the earlier news when the company said that it will be using the same platform as the Model 3.

The new Tesla Model Y will get the company’s autonomous driving functionality. But it is still not clear whether the company will be adding the gullwing door in this compact crossover or not, just like it did with the Model X.

Elon Musk is planning something very big for the Tesla Model Y. The company may consider setting up a new production plant for the crossover as the company expects the car to perform even better than the Model 3 entry level sedan. The Model Y is expected to first make its public debut in 2019 or 2020.
