The annual Bonneville Speed Week cancelled due to flooding of the area

Snapshot: The decision was taken by the Southern California Timing Association after heavy rains washed the sale flats where the event takes place

Bad news for the speed fans out there. The annual Bonneville Speed Week has been called off after rains flooded the salt flats where it is held every year. The event was to begin from August 9 this year, but was delayed because of the bad weather. Officials assumed that the water might dry up before the event begins, but it eventually didn't happen. It is still unsure if the event will happen sometime later this year as no decision has been taken by the officials so far. This might be a bit disturbing for the competitors who had reached Utah in an attempt to set a land speed record in different categories.

This year is also significant because this year is the 100th anniversary of the Bonneville Speed Week, so it is highly likely that the event will take place, but nothing can be said unless there is an official announcement from the organisers. There is a speculation though, of the event being held between September 30 and October 3. Let's keep our fingers crossed as the Castrol Rocket is expected to do something spectacular this year.
