A few months ago, we were, greeted by a surprise TVC of the Mercedes CLA AMG. We were surprised, for having a Mercedes AMG model advertisement in India was a big deal and it represented the fact, that Indian sensibilities regarding cars and the automobile industry as a whole is changing, and that we are now embracing the possibilities of going further in this regard.
Since, the launch of the Mercedes CLA AMG earlier this year, we have seen talking about the arrival of the CLA sedan also. Now, reports are confirming that a CLA has been imported in the country for homologation purposes. Mercedes-Benz will also be launching the CLA class in India to rival the Audi A3 sedan. Now, as per the import-export database website Zauba, the CLA sedan has been imported into India for homologation purposes.
Just like the GLA class, the CLA sedan will be sold in petrol and diesel variants. The petrol will be badged as CLA 200 and the oil burner will be badged as 200 CDI. Powering the CLA 200 is a 2-Liter Turbocharged petrol producing 181 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. The CLA 200 CDI has a 2.2 Litre turbo heart cranking out 134 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. Both the motors will come mated a 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission driving the front wheels. The CLA will come with Economy, Sport and Manual modes. Riding on the Modular Front Architecture (MFA), the CLA class will share parts with the A-Class, B-Class and GLA Class.
The equipment and safety features on offer include the COMAND infotainment system, 7 airbags, ABS+EBD, hill start assist, ESP, traction control and anti-skid regulation. Same as, GLA, CLA is coming via CKD route, while launch will happen early next year. Expected starting price for the CLA class will be under INR 30 lakh.
