As to the emerging reports, the homegrown auto manufacturing company Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce its third-generation Swift Sport across the country. In addition to the standard petrol and diesel variants, a Hybrid version of the all-new Swift is also expected to be offered by the automaker.
The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport is expected to be equipped with a 1.0-litre turbocharged Booster Jet petrol engine along with the remaining engine options. Initially, it is likely to borrow the Fiat’s 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine. Alongside, a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which is to be developed in-house could also arrive in the market.
The leaked reports reveal that the India-bound Swift Sport will be powered by a 1.4-litre Booster Jet petrol engine that is capable of producing a maximum power of 138 BHP and a peak torque of 230 Nm. As far as the transmission option is concerned, the motor will be coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Besides, there will also be an option of 6-speed automatic transmission.
The forthcoming Swift Sport Hybrid, on the other hand, is reportedly getting a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that can develop a highest power of 83 BHP at 6,000 revolutions per minute and a maximum torque of 115 Nm at 4,000 revolutions per minute. It will be mated to a 10-kW electric motor along with a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission).
There is no official announcement from the car maker regarding the confirmation of Swift Sport and Hybrid for India so far. However, the news leaks and recent spy shots hint that the road trials of the hybrid version might be in progress. Both the hatchbacks are expected to be unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo.
Once launched, the third-gen Swift Sport is going to rival with the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10, Honda Brio and Volkswagen Polo in India.
