Hybrid cars have captured the market in recent years. Many car manufacturing gaints have launched or going to introduce the hybrid version of their cars. It was rumoured some time back that Toyota India (‘Toyota Kirloskar India’) are going to introduce their hybrid models in the country. This is now confirmed by the company. They plan to unveil ‘Etio Hybrid’ soon, and ‘Camry hybrid’ would also be inroduced to prospective buyers in the near future.
It is a well known fact that hybrid models introduced recently by ‘Honda’ and ‘Toyota’ did no fare well, the customer response to these models was very disappointing. Considering this fact it is inconceivable why Toyota is introducing two new models, ‘Etios Hybrid’ and ‘Camry Hybrid’ in the country. Their future plans include ‘assembling’ these models in the country along with cars with engines using petrol as fuel. So far the customs duty charged for the imported model of ‘Prius Hybrid is one hundred percent and the car sells at a whoping price of rupees Twenty eight lakhs.
The sale for hybrid model of Toyota is good in the world markets. The hybrid vehicles ssles reached nearly one point two millions in the year ‘2012’. The prospective buyers in India so far have shown no inclincation to opt for a hybrid model.
It has been rumoured that Camry Hybrid will have big wheels, modified ‘grille’ and interiors. It will also have ‘fog lamps’ as well. It will come in three options, eletric alone, petrol alone or eletric plus petrol option. An engine running on ‘650 Volt eletric power would be joined by a fuel engine. Both engines together would give a substantial boost to the speed of the vehicle. So far prospective car buyers have shown reluctance to opt for innovative cars and normally stayed with well known tested and tried models. It is hoped that Toyota would be able to persuade them to go for hybrid cars.
