Maruti Suzuki has dominated the Indian passenger vehicle market by making its name in the top 10 selling list for many years now. The home grown car manufacturer has taken seven positions in the top 10 list, where the Ertiga has now made its entry in this chart in May 2017 after three years since December 2013. Moreover, the MUV has outsold the Toyota Innova with a good margin, though both the UVs are positioned in different segments and price points. But since the launch of the new Innova, it has ruled the segment.
Speaking on this, Abdul Majeed, Partner, PricewaterhouseCooper India said: "People are upgrading in the segment. Consumers who once used to opt for a compact sedan for a big car now also look at the compact SUV segment. Being spoilt for choices, consumer wants better and more."
As per the reports, a large number of buyers are shifting to utility vehicles, due to the fact that buyers want more spacious vehicle for less money and this is where mid-size UVs are taking the numbers in their hands. Many of the compact sedans and mid-size sedan buyers are opting for UVs like Vitara Brezza, Creta, Ertiga and Ecosport. Hyundai Creta has made a comeback in the top 10 list after long time, the manufacturer sold 8377 units in May 2017 as against 7057 units in the same month last year. While speaking of the top 5 positions, its just like the last month’s list the are still held by Alto, Swift, Wagon R, Baleno and Grand i10.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is now on the sixth spot with 12375 units sold in May 2017 as compared to 7193 units sold in the same month last year, making an impressive 72.4 percent growth. Company’s Dzire has dropped down its position to eighth at 9043 units in May 2017, though the automajor has recently launched the new version of the Dzire and has even booked around 50,000 orders till date. According to experts, consumers take time to respond on new products as they want feedback from people who have bought it. The previous generation of the Dzire was a bestseller in its segment in both passenger vehicle as well as commercial segment.
