Toyota Kirloskar Motors today announced a major recall for Innova MPV in India. The recall is concerned with the spiral cable mounted on the steering wheel of 44,989 units of the Innova that were manufactured between the span of the year 2005 and 2008.

Toyota introduced the Innova in 2005 in India and got a facelift in 2008. So as our intent say, most of the affected models in this recall are from its first generation. The recent update that Innova got was last year, however, was nothing more than a disappointment as it didn't get any major upgrade except the revised front and rear-end.

"This (error) will lead to continuous illumination of an airbag warning lamp on the instrument cluster giving prior indication of a problem to the customer. In addition, the driver's airbag may get deactivated. Toyota is currently working on obtaining the necessary replacement parts. Once the replacement parts are available, customers will be contacted by the authorized Toyota dealers. The vehicle will then be repaired free of cost"- the company officials said in a statement.
