Toyota once again succeeded to get world's best-selling car award for the Corolla sedan for 2013. The Japanese automaker has sold 1.22 million Corollas across the globe last year out of which 300,000 units reached the US market only. Toyota incepted the Corolla in 1966 and since then has sold in 40.72 million units till February 2014, becoming the world's largest selling vehicle model in the history. The company has been assembling the Corolla at more than 14 locations globally and marketing it in 150 countries.

The model was also named a top safety pick in 2013 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and was awarded a 5-star rating for overall safety by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which is the highest grade given by the agency.

The present Corolla is in its 11th generation life cycle, which is due to enter the Indian market next month. The new Corolla is extensively redesigned over its predecessor and boasts a complete exterior and interior makeover with several class-leading features. The company has dramatically changed the Corolla shedding its dull stance, which now appeals to younger buyers also.

Toyota will continue to power the India-bound Corolla with the 1.8-litre Dual VVTi petrol engine and 1.4-litre D-4D diesel engine that is a big disappointment for performance seekers. However, Toyotas are famous for catering piece of mind to its owners, which is one of the most important concerns for new car buyers in India. Toyota will launch the new Corolla Altis on 27th May in India and the new car is expected to be costlier by Rs 50,000 over its current version.
