The Japanese automaker, Toyota is all set to unveil the Etios Cross at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo in February. The vehicle was officially launched in the Brazilian market in November 2013, where it competes with the Fabia Scout and Cross Polo. The all new Etios Cross is a sportier and studier version of the Etios Liva hatchback. Etios Liva is an average performer in terms of sales, so the company should be aiming to improve the sales of Etios series through this crossover version.
The sturdy front and rear bumpers and solid side body cladding are the add-ons that make this car different than the regular Liva hatchback. The Etios Cross is most likely to have a new set of ten-spoke alloy wheels. The cabin gets a black dashboard and new seat upholstery. The Etios Cross is expected to share engines with the Liva hatchback. So, expect the existing 1.4-litre diesel engine from the Liva and 1.5-litre petrol from the Liva TRD Sportivo to power the Etios Cross.
Pursuing the latest trend of introducing sturdy versions of the compact hatchbacks, Toyota is also aiming to up-market the Etios brand, which is Toyota's least popular brand in the country, because of several reasons including the plastic quality. Since it's a crossover version of the hatchback, the vehicle won't compete against the more powerful and competent compact SUVs such as Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. The closest competitor for the Etios Cross in India will be Volkswagen Cross Polo, which was launched in late 2013.
