Toyota Kirloskar Motors has launched the 2016 Toyota Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback Platinum starting at Rs 6.43 lakh and 5.24 lakh (All Prices, ex-showroom, Mumbai), respectively. Earlier, the company has launched the new Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback in the Brazilian market, named as Platinum. Both the Etios platinum sedan and Etios Liva Platinum comes with a redesigned exterior, adding some sporty look and some tweaks from the inside.
Going by the exterior, the new Etios sedan and Liva hatchback gets the same front fascia, where it features a newly designed bumper with fresh V-shaped grille and black honeycomb inserts, decent use of accentuated chrome, a much larger air dam with fog lamp housing. The rear gets a newly worked bumper and gets an integrated spoiler. With these new tweaks the definitely looks much sportier than its outgoing model.
Inside, the new Toyota Etios sedan and Liva Platinum is more or less the same, but what now you will get to notice is the new speedometer and tachometer on the instrument display inspired from Toyota Prius (that makes it look more futuristic), a touch-screen infotainment system with GPS navigation, piano black centre console, multi-functional 3-spoke steering wheel, rear centre seat armrest and redesigned seats for more comfort for the driver as well as passengers. The interior of the sedan version comes with an complete all-black cabin layout. For the safety features, it will come loaded with pre-tensioners seatbelts, immobilizer, keyless entry, EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and more.
The Etios sedan will be powered by 1.4-litre power unit used in both petrol and diesel trim. The petrol version will boast a power output of 89 bhp with 132 Nm of peak torque, while the diesel version is tuned to crank out 67 bhp and 170 Nm of top spin. The Etios Liva is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol with 79 bhp and 104 Nm torque, and a 1.4-litre diesel unit that dishes out 67 bhp with 170 Nm. The power unit comes connected to a 5-speed manual gearbox that sent drive to the front wheels.
Toyota Etios sedan will compete with the likes of compact sedans like the Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Tata Zest, Honda Amaze and Ford Figo Aspire, while the Liva Platinum pound on the rivals such as Maruti Wagon R, Tata Bolt, Hyundai Grand i10 and Ford Figo.
