Toyota India has launched a new entry-level variant of its Fortuner SUV at an introductory price of Rs. 24.44 Lakhs. This base variant is being offered with a 2.5L diesel motor, and available with manual as well as auto transmission. The AT variant is priced slightly higher than the manual variant and it costs Rs. 25.44 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi). For your information, Toyota Kirloskar Motor had launched the Fortuner 4X4 AT yesterday only in the country.
Since, it is the entry-level variant and hence, it misses out on certain premium features that are on offer with other variants of the SUV. This base trim is deprived of navigation system with voice command, HID headlights and headlamp washer. Though, it retains its status of a high-end SUV with features such as automatic climate control with rear AC vents, ABS, dual airbags, alloy wheels, powered driver’s seat, music system with steering mounted controls and leather seats. Additionally, it flaunts halogen headlamps. TKM hasn't listed this variant's price on its official website without the TRD kit and if compared with the 3.0L variants, it is costlier by only Rs. 20,000.
Indeed, the 2.5L engine is sourced directly from the Innova MPV but it is tuned and tweaked to offer more power and torque than the Innova. The 2.5L motor with Fortuner churns out a maximum power of 142 bhp at 3400rpm and peak torque of 343Nm at 1600-2800rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional 5-speed automatic transmission. However, no 4x4 drive system is on offer and the power is transmitted to the rear wheels of the SUV. The 3.0L variants of the Fortuner SUV come with a top power of 168 bhp at 3600rpm and highest torque of 343Nm at 1400-3400rpm.
