  • Toyota has finally launched the BS6-compliant version of the Toyota Fortuner at a starting price of Rs 28.18 lakhs.
  • The SUV will be available with both the 2.7L petrol and the 2.8L diesel engine variants.
  • The surprising part is that the starting price of the BS6 version remains unchanged.

The BS6 version of the Toyota Fortuner has been launched in the market at a starting price of Rs 28.18 lakhs (ex-showroom). The vehicle will be available in six variants with the cost of the top-spec version being Rs 33.95 lakhs (ex-showroom).

Auto lovers were waiting for a long time for the launch of the BS6 Toyota Fortuner. Their prayers have been answered as Toyota Kirloskar Motor silently launched the BS6 version without much fanfare. Surprisingly, they have maintained the pricing at the same level as that of the BS4 version.

The BS6 Toyota Fortuner will be available in both the 2.7L petrol and the 2.8L diesel drivetrains. The individual pricing of the BS6 Toyota Fortuner is as follows:-

Toyota Fortuner BS6 variants

Price – Ex-showroom

2.7L 4X2 MT Petrol

Rs 28.18 lakhs

2.7L 4X2 AT Petrol

Rs 29.77 lakhs

2.8L 4X2 MT Diesel

Rs 30.19 lakhs

2.8L 4X2 AT Diesel

Rs 32.05 lakhs

2.8L 4X4 MT Diesel

Rs 32.16 lakhs

2.8L 4X4 AT Diesel

Rs 33.95 lakhs

The BS6-compliant petrol engine generates a maximum power of 163.7hp and a peak torque of 245Nm, whereas the diesel motor delivers 174.5hp and 420Nm respectively.

Another point of distinction is that the petrol variants are available only in the 2WD configurations, whereas the diesel vehicles come as both 2WD and 4WD systems. All the options come equipped with a 6-speed transmission system (manual for MT and automatic for AT vehicles).

The sales performance of the Toyota Fortuner has not been encouraging at all with the company selling 228 units in January 2020 as compared to the January 2019 figure of 1649. Therefore, the declining percentage is glaring 86%. Toyota expects that the launch of the BS6 version should prop up the sales figures. Despite such a sluggish performance, Toyota Fortuner continues to be the best-performing premium SUV model in the market. The sales figures outnumber those of its immediate competitors, the Ford Endeavour, Skoda Kodiaq, Isuzu MU-X, and Toyota Alturas G4.

Reports say that the For Endeavour will soon come equipped with a BS6-compliant 2.0L Panther turbocharged diesel engine replacing the existing BS4 2.2L 4-cylinder and the 3.2L 5-cylinder diesel motors.
