Toyota Innova Crysta has recorded over 20,000 bookings within a month of its launch in the country, announced the company in an official statement. The waiting period for the MPV is ranging between 2-4 months, while it is available in diesel fuel trim only. It is further being learnt that most of the bookings have been made for the flagship 2.8L ZX AT variant, which comes at a sticker price of Rs. 20.78 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Mumbai).
Toyota India, banking on the sales of Innova Crysta, registered growth in sales in May 2016 over the same period last year. Though, the sales growth could have been much higher, but due to Supreme Court's ban on sales of diesel vehicles with engine capacity above 2000cc, the Innova Crysta is not currently sold in Delhi-NCR which accounts for 10 percent of the total sales of the MPV in India. Hence, the Japanese automaker is bringing petrol variants of the MPV around the festive season of Diwali this year with a new 2.7L VVT-i engine. Just so you know, the NGT bench of Supreme Court would hear the plea of automakers on the diesel vehicles ban in Delhi-NCR on July 11, 2016.
Toyota Innova Crysta is currently offered with two diesel engine options: 2.4L GD engine generating 147bhp & 343Nm, and 2.8L GD engine churning out 172bhp and 360Nm. The former is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the latter is available with 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.4L variants deliver a fuel economy of 15.10kmpl, while the 2.8L variants return an impressive fuel economy of 14.29kmpl. (Both ARAI Specified). Toyota has taken safety to the next level in Innova Crysta with the introduction of 7 SRS Airbags: Driver, Front Passenger, Driver Knee, Front Side, Curtain Shield Airbags.
