Available for both three- and five-door body styles, the revised engine will go up for order in United Kingdom starting July 1 while deliveries are programmed to begin on August 1. This motor serves as a replacement for the current 3.0-liter engine and according to Toyota it brings lower fuel consumption, reduced CO2 emissions and improved torque delivery.
This is a 16-valve DOHC engine with a 2,755 cc displacement and is capable of generating 174 bhp and 420 Nm of torque available between 1,400 rpm and 2,400 rpm. It works with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional newly developed six-speed transmission replacing the old five-speed. When mated to the auto, the new engine can generate a peak torque of 450 Nm available in the 1,600 rpm and 2,400 rpm range.
This new automatic transmission comes with various control systems enabling the Land Cruiser to lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 9%. Based on preliminary tests, the five-door Land Cruiser 2.8 D-4D auto will do 13.8 km/l and emit 194 g/km.
Aside from gaining a new engine, the 2015 Toyota Land Cruiser (UK-spec) comes with additional standard equipment as the entry-level Active model now has DAB digital radio and at an additional cost it can be fitted Toyota Touch 2 with Go touchscreen infotainment system with navigation.
Other options can be added as well, such as leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable and heated front seats along with a more expensive Toyota Touch 2 with Go Plus that brings extra kit such as 3D city mapping, voice command recognition and text-to-speech function.
There’s also an optional Safety pack encompassing a plethora of safety & assistance systems like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Change Assist, Pre-Crash Safety, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and a Multi-Terrain Monitor which provides a 360-degree view of the Land Cruiser’s surroundings. Customers can also add a protection pack for the five-door model which gains side mouldings, boot liner and a rear bumper protection plate.
Most likely, the Indian version of the Land Cruiser will soon be offered with this new 2.8-liter D-4D engine.
