The Indian subsidiary of Toyota, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has confirmed that the new Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle will hit the Indian shores in January 2017. Post the debut of the Prius hybrid on the international arena at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015, the company has already presented the car on public display in India at the Auto Expo 2016.
At the heart, the Toyota Prius comprises of a hybrid power source in the form of a petrol engine and an electric motor. The engine consists of a four cylinder 1.8-litre machine with eco and power modes, which produces 97bhp of power at 5,200 revolutions per minute and a peak torque of 142Nm at 3,600 revolutions per minute. The electric motor too complements well by producing 71bhp power and 136Nm torque. The necessary fuel is generated by a lithium-ion/nickel metal hydride type battery. Moreover, there has been claims by the brand that the new Prius hybrid will be 10 per cent more economical on the fuel consumption and will also be 40 per cent more efficient on the battery.
The physical profile shows that this hybrid car is longer and wider than its predecessor, therefore, providing the buyers with a spacious cabin. Owing to its longer wheelbase, the boot space capacity has also increased from 445-litres to 502-litres.
The interiors of the Toyota Prius hybrid will also get upgradations in the form of a 4.2-inch touch display on its infotainment system. The other features will include an automatic climate control and a full colour head up display. This hybrid version of Toyota Prius is expected to come with a price tag between INR 30 lakhs and INR 40 lakhs as the exclusive showroom price in Delhi.
