The Japanese car manufacturer has made an announcement to recall 2.4 million hybrid cars globally. The reason for this recall is due to a potential fault in their systems which could cause them to lose power. In question, the models to be recalled are the Toyota Prius and the Aurius, where both are the hybrid models. These 2.4 million vehicles would include 1.25 million sold in Japan, 830,000 in North America and 290,000 in Europe, moreover the vehicles sold in China, Africa, Oceania and other regions are also affected.

The Japanese car giant also said that the involved vehicles were designed to enter a failsafe driving mode when the vehicle is in certain hybrid system faults. Toyota found that in rare situations, the vehicle could fail to enter into the failsafe driving mode. If this situation occurs, the vehicle could lose power and stall. And during this, the power steering and braking would still be in working, a vehicle stall while driving at higher speeds could increase the risk of a crash.

To rectify the issue, Toyota will update the software for all the effective vehicles free cost. The company recalled just a month after its previous recall due to an issue with the engine wire harness which can pose a fire risk.
