Toyota Kirloskar Motors achieved the milestone of selling 1 million vehicles today in India. The company started its business operations back in year 1997 and within a period of 16 years, the company ranks at fourth largest automaker in the country. And to mark the achievement special, a ceremony was organized to hand over the vehicle to its customer.
Addressing the occasion, Mr. N. Raja, Senior Vice President, TKM said, “The sale of Toyota’s one millionth car in India marks a very important milestone for us. Since its inception, Toyota has been present in the MPV/SUV segment in India and we have been market leaders ever since in these segments. It is only in 2011 that we forayed into the mass segment with the Etios & Liva and still have been able to realize this milestone in such a short duration.
As we achieve this significant landmark, I would like to thank our valuable customers, dealer partners, employees and suppliers for their support and commitment. We will continue to focus our efforts in bringing Toyota’s globally renowned QDR products to the Indian market”.
TKM started its inning with launch of unforgettable MUV Qualis in 1999 that had given automakers a new horizon to explore in the Indian market. Post that, introduction of Camry in 2002 and Corolla in 2003 also made company's foothold strong in the market. And than in 2005, Innova entered the Indian market as a replacement for Qualis and raised the company's sales graph dramatically, which later got backed by introduction of India-specific models Etios and Etios Liva.
Toyota currently has two assembly plants in India with an annual manufacturing capacity of 3,10,000 units. The company is making its portfolio further strong with launch of next-generation Corolla Altis and Etios Cross which are due to enter the Indian market around mid of 2014.
