Toyota is now completely is now all set to launch Lexus in India and the premium company will be introduced here in 2016 itself. Though, Lexus was supposed to be launched in India many years back, but that never happened due to high taxes in the country levied on imported cars. The market launch will take place in the second half of the 2016 and the RX and ES models will be the first ones to be launched in the Indian market.
Reportedly, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Japanese automajor is spending nearly Rs 300 crores to set up the new assembly section. Being a premium sedan, the Lexus ES will be powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine dishing out 274 HP of power and 346 Nm of torque and is paired with a a 6-speed automatic transmission. It could be offered with a hybrid system, also known as Lexus Hybrid Drive, which combines a 2.5-litre petrol engine and an electric motor producing a power output of 202 HP mated to a CVT gearbox.
The Lexus RX is a stylish SUV and is offered in three variants – the RX 200t, RX 350 and RX 450h. The RX 200t will be packed with 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission delivering 235 HP and 350 Nm of torque. The RX 350 comes with a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine producing 296 HP and 370 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed auto box. The RX 450h comes with the Lexus Hybrid Drive and will be packed with a 3.5-litre diesel engine and two electric motors, one at the front churning out 165 HP and one at the rear producing 67 HP.
Both the model will be brought from Japan as CKD units and will be assembled at Toyota’s vicinity in Karnataka. Toyota will showcase these models at the Auto Expo 2016 and the launch is expected to take place later in the year.
