The pact between Suzuki and Toyota to launch rebadged models in India has kept the automotive industry and motor enthusiasts on their toes with regard to the latest developments on the venture and specifications of upcoming products under the agreement. By now, it is widely known that the new Toyota Baleno is expected to arrive by late 2019, which would apparently be the first launch under the product-exchange campaign.
And the latest news from official sources is that the Toyota Vitara Brezza launch is confirmed post the Toyota Baleno launch, however, we will have to wait for the Toyota-badged Brezza to come between the period of 2020-2021.
According to N Raja, Deputy Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Toyota Baleno will be the first entry in the Indian market in 2019 whereas plans to launch Toyota Vitara Brezza is still under wraps. The Toyota-badged Brezza will most likely arrive in 2020 or 2021, as it is still under consideration and a final decision is yet to be taken about its launch.
The Suzuki-Toyota venture will see greater aspects of collaboration than just a re-badging exercise. For a fresh appeal and unique presence, Toyota Vitara Brezza is expected to receive several small changes such as restyled new bumpers, grille and lights.
Mr. Raja went on to share that the model differences or modifications will be minimal because more changes in the products will demand more costs and investment, which is limited at Toyota’s end. However, on the flipside, Toyota plans to make its customer experience more rich and valuable, in order to retain its current buyers and loyalists and make sure that they continue to remain in touch with the brand.
In terms of looks, Toyota Vitara Brezza will be similar to the Maruti Suzuki Brezza model. It will borrow its gearbox and engine. The present Vitara Brezza compact SUV will receive Maruti Suzuki’s newly developed 1.5-litre diesel motor prior to the BS-6 regulations take effect. Hence, Toyota-badged Vitara Brezza is expected to be powered by the same new engine.
