We earlier reported you that Suzuki and Toyota have formed an alliance under which both the Japanese automakers would supply each other vehicles. As per the agreement, Suzuki would provide Vitara Brezza and Baleno to Toyota who would return the favour by offering Corolla to Suzuki. Now, we have learnt that first Toyota-badged Vitara Brezza SUV would be launched by mid 2019 in the Indian market. The folks at AutoCar India have rendered an imaginary Vitara Brezza with Toyota badging, reflecting the possible cosmetic modifications made to it.
Besides the exchanging of badges, the shared models would witness a plethora of cosmetic changes. It is being known that the models would have individual soft components like bumpers, grille and lights to have their own identity. The rendering of the Toyota-badged Maruti Vitara Brezza reveals that the front end of the model could be identical to the recently unveiled 2019 Toyota RAV4. The company has already been using this strategy for Mazda2 Sedan-based Toyota Yaris for the North American market. The Yaris sedan was formerly also known as Toyota Yaris iA or Scion iA. Also, it is highly unlikely that there would be any metal sheet changes in the shared models due to high cost.
Mechanically, the Toyota-badged Maruti Vitara Brezza and Maruti Baleno would have the same engines and transmissions. Likewise, the Suzuki-badged Toyota Corolla petrol and Toyota Corolla hybrid would retain the same powertrain and gearbox. Both the companies have also signed an agreement for Electric Vehicles (EVs) as well, which would involve introduction of cooperative structure for launching EVs in India around 2020. On one hand while Suzuki would develop EVs and supply a few to Toyota, Toyota would take care of the technical support. The companies, together, would also carry out a comprehensive study of activities that would help make EVs widely acceptable and popularize their usage.
