Toyota is gearing up to make an entry in mid-size sedan segment in the Indian market with the launch of the Yaris. Dealers have started accepting bookings for the model in select cities like Delhi at a token amount of Rs 50,000. Toyota Yaris sedan was recently showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, while they reach the showroom in the second half of April.
We can expect deliveries of the new sedan to start from the first half of May 2018. Toyota Yaris will compete with the likes of the Honda City, the new Hyundai Verna and the Ciaz. The India bound version will come packed with a host of features. Not only, it will come with features that we can expect from its segment, but also some of the segment first features - touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control, a tyre pressure-monitoring system, a roof-mounted rear air-con with ambient lighting, adjustable three-neck restraints for the rear seat, 60:40 rear seat split, electrically adjustable driver seat and front parking sensors.
Under the bonnet, Toyota Yaris sedan will be available in the petrol engine option only. The petrol engine is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine that produces 108bhp of maximum power and comes mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-step CVT (automatic transmission). For safety, the sedan will come packed with seven airbags including a driver's knee airbag, all-wheel disc brakes, ABS with EBD, ESP and Hill-Start Assist.
Toyota Yaris will be heavily localized that clearly makes its price to quite competitive with its rivals and we can expect it to fall in a range of Rs 8.5 lakh to 13.5 lakh (ex Showroom).
