- TVS is joining hands with BMW again to launch a premium motorcycle by 2021.
- The brand-new upgraded model will be the third offering of the TVS-BMW Alliance.
- Its prime rival, Bajaj, has a couple of alliances up its sleeve for producing quality mid-capacity bikes.
At the time of its launch, the Apache RR 310 was touted as a revolutionary model. The TVS Apache RR 310 was the first bike offering of the TVS-BMW Motorrad alliance. The resounding success of the Apache RR 310 set the tone for other productions to hit the roads. The coalition is now coming together again for the third time to launch a new premium model by 2021.
The alliance will be using the same platform for manufacturing the new model, that everyone hopes to be an upgraded one in all respects.
The alliance between the Indian two-wheeler giant and the German behemoth was formed in 2013 to capture the mid-capacity bike segment. BMW usually caters to the premium segment. However, the company felt that India has a thriving market for the mid-capacity bike segment. This factor explains the partnership between these two companies.
Apart from the Apache RR 310, the alliance had offered the G 310 R and the G 310 GS bikes, both with a distinctive BMW signature. Though developed by the German maker, TVS had a hand in it as well because these bikes were polished off at the TVS plant in Hosur, Tamilnad. The company claims to have sold more than 50,000 bikes in less than the two years since their launch in India.
Such alliances are not new in the automotive world. Bajaj Auto, TVS’s principal competitor, has a couple of partnerships of its own with reputed international bike manufacturers like RC, Duke, and Husqvarna for producing performance bikes, and KTM for the on-road bikes. Besides, Bajaj has entered into a tie-up arrangement with Triumph Motorcycles to enter the displace engine bike segment in the Indian automobile market.
The TVS-BMW and the Bajaj experience proves that JVs have become the order of the day now to overcome the fierce competition in the market.
