- There will be two bikes based on the Zeppelin Concept.
- Both bikes will go on sale in 2020 in India.
- One of the bikes will feature hybrid technology.
TVS Motor Company had unveiled the Zeppelin Concept at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. Now it is being learned that the company will introduce two production-spec models based on the Zeppelin concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. The two Zeppelin-based bikes will go on sale by the second half next year in the Indian market. In addition, TVS could also showcase a few more products at the biennial event in February in concept and production form.
The Zeppelin-based motorcycles will use an all-new BS 6 220cc single-cylinder petrol engine which will be borrowed from the cruiser concept. However, it is not yet confirmed whether liquid-cooling and fuel injection technologies will be on offer but chances are high that both these technologies will be available with the engine due to BS 6 emission norms. It will mark the company's entry into the entry-level cruiser segment which is presently dominated by the rival Bajaj's Avenger motorcycles. It will also compete against the Royal Enfield Classic 350. Furthermore, it is believed that one of the two Zeppelin-based motorcycles will have a regular 220cc engine while the other having a hybrid motor to get extra mileage.
The hybrid powertrain with an integrated starter generator will give the motorcycle an edge over its competitors by saving fuel during idle situations. Both the bikes could share several elements with each other and in order to keep the costs under check, the belt drive may not be available. The designing could be with a dark theme with chrome-laden styling elements while riding on alloy wheels and featuring a backrest. The other equipment could include an all-digital instrument cluster, LED headlamp, and tail lamp cluster along with SmartXonnect which will be sourced from the Ntorq 125 and Jupiter.
