What kind of an imagery is formed in your mind when you hear the words 'Mercedes-Benz'? Generally, it's that of a big luxurious sedan wafting along stately on a smooth stretch of tarmac or parked on a porch of a five-star. Now what happens if you add the letters 'AMG' to the mix? The aforementioned visuals distort and give way to visions of a snarling, black or dark-grey vehicle drifting its way around a racetrack in a cloud of rear-tyre smoke. With that kind of alter ego, Mercedes-Benz has been kind enough to let the (rich) Indians get a taste of that alternate personality by continually launching one AMG product after the another.
In fact, ever since Mercedes acquired AMG completely in 2005, the manufacturer has never felt shy in promoting these barking-mad machines that come with the AMG badge. The Indian line-up already saw the latest addition in the form of GL 63 AMG that was launched around a fortnight ago and again, in less than 15 days from today, Mercedes would be launching the ML 63 AMG. If that was not enough, the launch would be a first-of-a-kind in a way as the fire-breathing SUV will be launched at Mercedes' first AMG Performance Centre in Delhi. Or, we can say that Mercedes is launching its first such facility with the ML 63 AMG; it's a twin launch really on the 15th of this month.
The Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG is powered by a 5.5-litre V8 engine that produces around 520 bhp. All that power is channelized through an AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic automatic transmission and sent to all four wheels which then take this mammoth of a vehicle to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Of course, you can get completely out of your senses and get the optional AMG Driver's Package and reset the top speed to 280 km/h.
You do that while we wait for the SL65 AMG to be launched...
