Ukraine has been in the news over the past few weeks, for various reasons and tensions surrounding anti-government protests which turned into deadly violence and which ultimately led to the fall of its President, Viktor Yanukovych. Now, Mr. Yanukovych has gone underground, as there is a warrant out for his arrest on charges related to as-many-as 100 civilian deaths. And in his absence, the world is getting a look at the lavish lifestyle, the Ukrainian president and his family used to live.
'Mezhyhirya'- Viktor's empire, is spread across 345 acres on country's Dnieper River. Loaded with ultra-luxurious facilities, Mezhyhirya, boasts an artificial lake, golf course, shooting range, tennis courts and a zoo on the outskirts of the residence. The main treasure that people discovered in the palace, were Viktor Yanukovych’s collection of more than 70 classic cars and motorcycles, making it a museum of Soviet-era automotive history, more than a regular garage.
The collection found at Mezhyhirya includes various cult names like Zavod Imeni Likhachova (ZiL) limos, Ferrari 410 cabriolet, 1963 Chevrolet Impala and a 950 Bentley Continental S1. Just like the President, his son was also very-much fond of cars and had numerous Mercedes-Benz vehicles, from a Brabus G-Class Cabriolet and a C126 SEC, to an SLS AMG and W121 S-Class. The Mercedes cars are all-black, just like the rest of the rides in this garage.
The cars appear to be well-maintained, and most of them have museum-like displays in front of them, detailing some of their history. It is a state collection and unlikely to be sold but even if was, it would yield a whopping 4 million USD in the open market it is estimated!
