The benefit of an ever expanding market is that, sometimes the lesser known brands can make great inroads with fabulous brand positioning and product quality. Speaking of which, the American United Motors' Renegade Commando comes to mind. At 223 cc and 18 PS of Power alongwith a decent 15.5 Nm of torque puts the Renegade into the territory of the only other definition cruiser of the country, the highly capable Bajaj Avenger 220.
On paper Renegade does fall short of Avenger’s power figures but it more than makes up for it in weight parameter being 10 kg lighter. But for a company that is even lesser known for the biking aficionados in the country, it would take some real and innovative effort to hit the sweet spot in the market. At an ex-Showroom price of 1.25 lakh the Renegade will come out with a considerable premium over its main competition, Bajaj Avenger, but syncs almost too well in terms of Royal Enfield product pricing.
We believe the USP of UM will be the colours they are offering for the Renegade, especially the Matte Green shade, which will definitely shift a lot of customer base from the Royal Enfield their highly desired Battle Green Shade for Classic 500 is a export only colour. Although other two colours, black and silver are equally striking too.
Expect the launch of Renegade somewhere around November. We hope that the new kid on the block gets its share of limelight. Who doesn’t like a good old-fashioned David VS Goliath story. Bring it on UM we say!
We were among the very first to guess the price right. Read out story here.
