Benelli - the marquee Italian sports bike manufacturer is prepping up to launch another motorcycle in the Indian market. And this time, the brand is trying its hands on a retro-styled 400 CC motorcycle christened the Imperiale 400. Once launched, the retro cruiser will lock horns with the segment leader - Royal Enfield Classic 350. At the launch of TRK 502 and TRK 502X, Benelli officials stated that the Italian brand is planning to launch an array of products in the Indian market by late 2019 or early 2020.

Now, a spy shot of the Benelli Imperiale 400 has surfaced online, intriguing the motorcycle enthusiasts. The mid-capacity cruiser was seen standing at the ARAI centre in Pune. This hints at the possibility of the motorcycle being launched in the Indian market this year only. The Imperiale 400 was first showcased at the EICMA 2017 was equipped with a EURO IV single-cylinder and air-cooled mill. This mill is capable of churning out 20.4 bhp of peak power at 5,500 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm. It seems like the Italian motorcycle manufacturer has already developed a BS-VI compliant engine which will take care of the propulsion duties of the India-spec Benelli Imperiale 400.

The Benelli Imperiale 400 is equipped with conventional telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Anchoring department packs 300mm disc at the front and 240mm disc at the rear. The retro cruiser will be offered with dual-channel ABS as the competition already has equipped its entire product line-up with single and dual channel ABS. Imperiale 400 gets a lot of chrome job on the mudguards, side-view mirrors and exhaust muffler. The cruiser sports a split seat, dual instrument cluster, a round headlamp and a tear-drop fuel tank.

Speaking of the competition, Benelli has to work a lot on the localization of its products which will help the brand to contain the pricing. The expected price of Benelli Imperiale 400 will be around Rs 2 lakh mark. The sub-500 CC motorcycle segment is witnessing a lot of participation from the homegrown and foreign motorcycle manufacturers. In the future, the Indian buyer will have a lot of exciting options to choose from.
