The 2020 Indian Challenger is an upcoming bagger model.
It will rival the Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special in the Indian market.
It will be launched sometime in 2020.
Should be priced around the Rs 35 lakh mark, ex-showroom.
The specifications of the 2020 Indian Challenger, an upcoming model, have been leaked. The Challenger was supposed to be unveiled at the 2019 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy, in November.
The Indian Challenger is a full-size tourer with hard luggage. As such, it will be powered by the 1770cc liquid-cooled 8 valve V-twin engine that Indian calls the ‘Powerplus 108’ because of its 108 cubic inch displacement.
This engine is rated at 120 bhp, but no torque figure has been leaked. A six-speed gearbox will be available. Among other features will be traction control, ABS, riding modes and cruise control. The brakes have twin front discs to control all that mass, and the calipers are Brembo units.
The styling of the Challenger will consist of the ‘War Bonnet’, Indian’s term for the front fairing, a fuel tank similar to that of the Scout, and at the back, hard panniers, since it is a bagger. The wheels are modern alloy units which means tubeless tyres – another modern touch is the LED headlamp.
Suspension comprises inverted front forks, while the rear isn’t visible in the leaked images. The windscreen will be electrically adjustable, and the panniers will be remotely lockable. As is the fashion with modern motorcycles, a TFT color screen is definitely on the cards, and it might get touch capability as well.
The Challenger is unabashedly a cruiser, so expect a foot-forward riding position, with the handlebar sweeping towards the rider within easy reach.
The Indian Challenger will make its global debut in 2020 after its unveil in Milan next month, and it will be launched in India in 2020 as well. It will be priced around the Rs 35 lakh mark ex-showroom, and compete with the Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special.
