The market for the entry-level luxury cars is expanding at a very rapid pace and every manufacturer has come up with a product for this genre. Mercedes too came up with the CLA-Class last year, which replaced the C-Class as the most affordable Mercedes-Benz sedan in India. And CLA-Class did received a wide appreciation from the market.
But it seems like the Audi A3 and the BMW 1-Series is taking a toll on the CLA's performance. And to overcome it, the German luxury car manufacturer is ready with the next-generation CLA-Class as suggested by the recent spy video. The video shot by an individual YouTube member showcase the 2016 CLA-Class doing a test run with minimum camouflage.
While the spy video features a CLA-Class Shooting Brake, the changes will be applied throughout the CLA-Class, be it the sedan or the AMG model. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class will bear the resemblance to the facelifted A-Class as seen through the video, and both the families will share most of the design cues.
The front end gets an optional Multibeam LED headlamps, integrated with new LED DRLs. The bumper is also redesigned, while the rear gets revised set of LED taillight cluster. While the video only highlights the exteriors, no details of the interiors are out yet, considering that this is the first time 2016 CLA-Class has been spied.
But the expected inside the cabin could include new color combinations, an improved set of trim materials, and an updated instrument cluster. Mercedes CLA could also get the new 3-spoke steering wheel design, while the freestanding COMAND display will be provided with a larger screen. And like the 2016 Mercedes A-Class, it could get an Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity.
As for the power, the engines will not be altered with, but the refinement and fuel efficiency will be improved. An 1.6-litre tubrocharged petrol engine with two different outputs will power the lower model, while a 2.0-litre engine will power higher models. The diesel engine choices will include a 2.2-litre engine with two states of tune and the range-topping Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 could be boosted to 385 PS, like the facelifted 2016 Mercedes-AMG A45.
While the 2016 A-Class will make its debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the next-generation CLA-Class will make its debut somewhere in the spring of next year, followed by the launch in the late 2016. India launch could very well happen in 2017 and not before that.
