We are two weeks away from the full reveal as the brand new 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will receive its world premiere in Thailand on August 1 at the Bangkok International Grand Motor Sale and it should arrive in India likely next year. This latest teaser is actually more revealing than the last one as it paints an accurate picture of the exterior design which as you can see appears to be significantly more premium when compared to the outgoing model.
We took a few screenshots from the video to better show what to expect from the new Pajero Sport which will be based on the latest generation Triton / L200. Up front, there is going to be a fresh front fascia making extensive use of chrome and taking plenty of cues from the recently revised Outlander. As for the back, this is where things get really interesting as it has a rather distinctive taillight arrangement in the same vein as the GR-HEV concept unveiled last year at the Geneva Motor Show. Overall, it looks more rounded and chiseled compared to the current car which has a more rugged appearance which we believe is more suitable for a proper off-roader.
Underneath the hood we should expect to find just about the same array of engines as seen in the aforementioned Triton and L200. Depending on the market, the 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be motivated by 2.4- and 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engines and there should also be a normally aspirated 2.4-liter gasoline unit. Output will vary from 128 bhp and 194 Nm to 181 bhp and 430 Nm of torque and depending on engine choice there are going to be five- and six-speed manual gearboxes, along with five- and six-speed automatic transmissions.
Chances are Mitsubishi will release additional teasers to build up hype until the model’s full debut on August 1.
