Mahindra has been testing its 2020 line-up of vehicles as they are expected to launch at the Auto Expo 2020 or in the second half of 2020. The Thar will also receive new cosmetic and mechanical changes for the facelift. The SUV has been spied being tested on the Indian roads many times.
Currently, Mahindra is offering Thar 700 which is a limited edition and Mahindra will be producing only 700 of those. The current Mahindra Thar specs offer a max power output of 105bhp @ 3,800rpm and a peak torque output of 247Nm @ 1,800-2,000rpm. The common rail diesel engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, which transfers power to all the four wheels.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar will come with redesigned exteriors and interiors. At the front, the 7-slot grille and the circular headlamps will be continued while the overall size of the SUV is expected to grow. Braking duties will be done by disc brakes in the front and at the rear, unlike the current model.
Mahindra Thar 2020 specs may offer a 2.0-litre diesel engine which will also do duty on the Mahindra XUV500 2020 and the Mahindra Scorpio 2020. There is also a slight possibility that the SUV will be available with a petrol engine too. Both of the engines will be BS6 compliant. The spy shots confirm that the 5-speed manual transmission has been replaced by a 6-speed manual transmission and Mahindra can also offer an automatic transmission.
Mahindra Thar 2020 interior will come with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There are also hardware buttons placed just below the touchscreen infotainment system which appears to be shortcut buttons while the volume knob sits in the centre with a power button in the middle.
Mahindra will be offering fully automatic climate control, in the with circular Air conditioning vents and the control buttons for it will be placed below the central vents. The power window switches have been placed in the place of the central console just beside the hand-brake. The 4X4 shifter, gear stick and the upholstery have been upgraded to a more premium feel when compared to the current generation of the Thar.
The instrument cluster has been updated with a multi-information display that shows vital information to the driver. According to the spy shot, we can see that the MID displays the outside temperature, time, fuel gauge, temperature gauge and much more. The MID is flanked by analogue gauges for the tachometer and the speedometer which comes with red accents while the tell-tale lights have been placed all over the instrument cluster. The key fob of the Thar is also new and comes with a flip key.
The new Mahindra Thar is expected to launch at the Auto Expo 2020 and the price of the SUV is expected to increase by around Rs 1 lakh.
