Of all the things Aston Martin is, there have always been doubts about its racing ability and that's why, the iconic British brand is known more for the sheer road presence than the performance. To flip the story other way around, Aston Martin recently revealed the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 high performance race car and the company has just released a video featuring it with the more hardcore GT3 special edition.
Limited only to 100 units, the race car is built immaculately and lots of detailing has gone to enhance the performance of the car. The GT3 is based on the v12 Vantage S but weighs almost 100kg less, thanks to the intensive use of carbon fibre on the door casings, lithium-ion battery, carbon fiber hood, polycarbonate rear window and a carbon fiber roof.
The weight alone can't ensure good performance and that has to be combined with an engine that can push the car to desired speed. The engine duty on the GT3 is done by a 6.0 litre V12 engine that produces 600hp and 625Nm. The power is delivered to the wheels through a 7-speed automated manual transmission, which helps the car accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 3.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 297 kmph.
On the outside, the GT3 is essentially the same Vantage with a big spoiler both in front and rear. It also gets 19-inch forged alloy wheels fitted with Brembo carbon ceramic brakes. While the exteriors get only minor changes, it is the interiors which gets the majority of detailing like the carbon fiber stack with touch-sensitive controls, Alcantara-covered steering wheel, leather door pull straps, and the carbon fiber sports seats.
The Vantage GT3 won't be sold in the United States and China while the deliveries will commence from the third quarter of 2015.
