The BMW M2 has all the ingredients to be the “ultimate driving machine” as it’s going to be a high-powered, lightweight coupe with a bold appearance to match the impressive technical sheet. It’s currently undergoing final testing on the famed Nurburgring track in Germany where BMW’s engineers are putting the finishing touches to make sure everything is in order for the model’s market launch programmed for the end of this year or early 2016.
BMW has already confirmed they will show us the new M2 Coupe “soon” and apparently upon launch it will be offered with one of the following body paints: Alpine White, Black Sapphire metallic, Mineral Grey metallic and Long Beach Blue metallic. Gearbox choices remain a mystery at this moment, but we expect to find the seven-speed DCT and/or the six-speed manual gearbox sending power to the rear wheels.
Speaking of power, underneath the hood will reside an evolution of the TwinPower turbocharged six-cylinder 3.0-liter engine massaged to deliver 370 bhp and a peak torque of 465 Nm. There could be an overboost function which upon activation will bump torque to 500 Nm for a brief moment. Performances should be stellar as the 0-100 kmph sprint is estimated to take less than four and a half seconds while top speed will probably be electronically limited to 250 kmph, but an M Driver’s Package offered as optional equipment should raise the limiter to 274 kmph.
Codenamed F87, the 2016 BMW M2 Coupe will probably receive its public debut in mid-September at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany and if this is the case, an online reveal should occur before the end of August. It’s not known at this point whether the M2 will be sold in India where it would join its larger brother, the M3 Sedan, but obviously at a more affordable price tag.
