Warren Buffet, the most famous and richest investor in the world has a teaching to give- always diversify your portfolio. And this is the reason most of the business houses don't limit themselves to one product. But none can match the diversification, as vast as the Volkswagen group. Largely known to build and own some of the best cars, Volkswagen also manufacturers Sausages. Yes, you read it right, Sausages!
Few people know that the second largest automotive manufacturer in the world, also manufacturers Sausages, and they are quite successful at it. In 2014 alone, Volkswagen sold around 7.8 million sausages, as compared to 6.1 million vehicles. That's a good 20% increase than the 2013 figures, when they able to sell 6.4 million sausages.
Manufactured at the Folksvagenovsky sausage factory in Wolfsburg, the VW Currywurst is famous for grilled sausages. Though, most of the manufactured products go to the VW plants as food, they do sell the sausages through supermarkets in Europe. In addition to the sausages, VW also manufacturer tomato ketchup, which they first rolled out in 1997. By 2014, their annual sales crossed record 536,826 kg of tomato sauce.
We guess building sausages and ketchups is a lucrative side business along with building some of the gorgeous and exotic cars. We have embedded a video highlighting VW's sausage business (the figures in the video are from 2013).
