Customization can result in insane products and we have seen many them over the years. But this particular vehicle as customized by Lazzarini Design is simply out of the world. The design team at Lazzarini decided to do something lethal and they injected a Ferrari V8 engine into the cute looking Fiat 500 and named it the Fiat 550 Italia Prototipo Uno.
The Lazzarini design team did something of this sort in the past too when they replaced the regular 4-cylinder motor in an Alfa Romeo with a 4.4-litre V8 unit from the Ferrari F430. And this time their target was this small Fiat 500. If we break down the name - the Fiat 550 Italia Prototipo Uno means that the Fiat 500 prototype will generate 550bhp and only single unit will be made.
To accommodate the big and bulky Ferrari F136FB V8 engine in the tiny Fiat, Lazzarini reshaped the rear and made it wider by 350 mm, while the front gets wider by 250 mm. Also, the wheelbase has been increased by 350 mm to accommodate the transmission, which originally sits at 2300 mm. To widen the rear and front, seating and front mounted motor were removed.
While a normally breathing Fiat 550 produces 550 bhp, an additional turbocharger can be installed to get more insane 700 horses. The turbocharging system gets the air from the scoops fitted on the roof and two other vents located under the car. Suspension differential, gearbox and transmission were also borrowed from Ferrari apart from the engine.
To get this single rare piece of madness, you have to shell out $550,000, though will it be street legal or not, will be a question for the future!
