The India-made Maruti Baleno has received 3-star rating for the standard version, which is decent enough for a vehicle weighing 890 kg (Kerb weight), while the Baleno scored a 4-star safety rating that includes an optional safety pack called 'Radar Brake Support', which includes an AEB City and AEB Inter-Urban system. It is to be noted that the euro-spec Baleno tested incorporates 6 airbags, while the India-spec Baleno only has dual airbags as standard.

This is the first time that EuroNCAP is allowing two different star ratings for the same vehicle. EuroNCAP will generate a base rating by default for a car equipped with zero options, with another rating (if the manufacturer opted for it) for the car equipped with safety pack, making it more easy customers to understand and benefits of having additional crash avoidance equipment in their vehicle.

The top-end Suzuki Baleno scored 85 percent on the adult safety front and 73% on the child safety front, while the standard variant of the Baleno scored 80 percent, which is 5% less compare to the top variant. On the child safety front and pedestrian safety, both standard and the top end variant scored 73 percent and 65 percent, respectively.

While testing the standard model, EuroNCAP found that the only "Safety Assist" feature that you can rely on is the seatbelt reminder system, which is fitted as standard for all seating positions. And by trying a car that had the optional autonomous braking system. Speaking of which, the Baleno performed quite well during autonomous braking tests.
